Abigail Brown – Construction Technician Apprentice
Having achieved A and A* grades in her A Levels, Abigail felt pushed towards university. However, she decided she’d had enough of full-time education and decided to pursue an apprenticeship and start working.
Abigail applied to SASW to become an apprentice Construction Technician. After attending an interview with the SASW team, they knew that she’d be a great fit with one of their contractors – Midas. Abigail was unsure as to whether a construction based apprenticeship would be right for her.
When SASW suggested a work experience placement with Midas to help her decide, she welcomed this opportunity. This work experience in Abigail’s words, “completely sold me on construction and Midas”. From here she decided to continue the interview process with SASW and soon found herself working with Midas Construction.
As part of her apprenticeship, Abigail attends Exeter College one day a week to complete her Level 3 Diploma in Construction in the Built Environment. Alongside this, Abigail works 4 days a week on site where she is gaining evidence for her level 3 NVQ in Construction Contracting Operations.
Abigail spoke about her time as an SASW apprentice working with Midas: “It’s non-stop – I’m part of a great team, I’m learning so much and haven’t stopped smiling since I started.”
Abigail can confidently say that she is learning something new every day, moving between different departments. So far, Abigail has worked in Site Management, Design & Build, Quantity Surveying and Estimating to name but a few.
