What is your background?
I was previously a joinery apprentice working on heritage projects carrying out restoration work among some new extensions.
Qualification being obtained:
Level 3 BTEC in construction and the built environment alongside a level 3 NVQ in construction contracting operations.
What does this involve?
Day release attendance at college and 3 site based assessments for evidence to gain the NVQ.
Has training, guidance and mentoring been provided?
Yes, I am trained on the job being able to get involved in a wide variety of different aspects of the project were I am able to develop different skills and knowledge using various tools and equipment. I have also been on multiple courses that have greatly improved my knowledge in health and safety.
Are you having opportunity to apply the knowledge you have gained?
Yes, I have been assigned with a variety of tasks to take care of continually as well as assisting the engineering team every day.
How do you find working for your company?
I thoroughly enjoy working for Galliford Try and hope to continue working for them, I am fascinated by the work we carry out and am impressed at how well training is provided.
What have you been involved with to date?
I have been working at Brewery Square in Dorchester where we are constructing a 7 story building with 132 apartments, 15 retail units and a 150 space basement car park
What are your career aspirations?
To qualify with a degree in construction project management and gain membership with the CIOB and work on sustainable projects where possible.
